Hey guys and girls,

I’m actually watching that CBS Sherlock Holmes show ‘Elementary’.

*Waits for boos and hissing to stop from BBC Sherlock fans*

It’s not the best show nor is it the worst show.
It’s pretty much you’re average ‘modern’ crime show formula. With a lead actor playing the hero who is smarter than the police with a cooky, weird, analytical, book smart, internet sourcing, mysterious past, socially askew, and rather odd personality.
Which is very much over used these days on Tv. On shows like ‘House’, CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: New York, The mentalist, Blue Collar, Psych, Monk, the closer, and so on and so on…

Okay. Yes it’s, in some ways, a rip off of the BBC ‘Sherlock’ Tv show.
As it’s described on IMDB:
Elementary: ‘A modern take on the cases of Sherlock Holmes, with the detective now living in New York City.’

Which is some what similar to

Sherlock: ‘A modern update finds the famous sleuth and his doctor partner solving crime in 21st century London.’

-Both shows have Sherlock as a man who is clever and willing to prove others wrong and solve cases purely for the thrill of the chase.

-They both have the main character using their phones to help solve crime.
(Both are I-phone users. Must mean 50% of the crime solving work is thanks to Apple?)

-Plus both versions of Sherlock seem to have a rather keen fondness for their companion Watson. Yet ‘Elementary’ can and probably will get away with Sherlock banging Watson. While ‘Sherlock’ will have to keep to the gay innuendo jokes with in the show. The only Sherlock banging of Watson will be displayed on fan fiction and Tumblr shipping pages.

Anyway…

Now the BBC ‘Sherlock’ is more about quality than quantity. Which makes for a rather short and sweet run for each series. The episodes are jam packed with great story telling and drama.
Unfortunately there are more episodes of ‘Elementary’ than there are of ‘Sherlock’. Which means as we wait for another series of ‘Sherlock’. ‘Elementary’ would have had a ‘modern’ Sherlock on our screens even longer than the BBC version.

So how can you get your fix of Sherlock Holmes, while waiting for another version of Sherlock Holmes. Yet having to endure watching a rather different American version of Sherlock Holmes?

It’s easy.

By watching ‘Elementary’ as if it where a spin off of the BBC show ‘Sherlock’ after Series 2 ended.

How to watch ‘Elementary’:
After ‘Sherlock’ series 2 ended. It would seem the now famous consulting detective had committed suicide and died. Leaving Watson unhappy and the world believing him to have died a phoney detective.

Now, Imagine that there was someone living in London during this time. He’s rather smart yet spends his days as a social outcast watching Tv all day in his apartment and spacing out. With an addiction to drugs. Screwing up his mind and his personality. He’d be following the local news of a man that was solving crimes like a wild fire taking over a forest in summer. Until the day that the news reports his death.

This man sees a chance to resort his life. He knows how to think outside the box and he acts in a rather unconventional way. Like the description of the personality of Mr Holmes. Unfortunately becoming Sherlock Holmes with in England is near impossible thanks to the local media coverage. So where could he go? What country won’t really cast an eye on this detail? America.
He’d take advantage of the big country and it’s 24/hour news cycle of it’s own American news. Stating that the country would be far too busy to look over this small detail. He’d create a new identity and borrow the original’s life. Even going so far to find an assistant with also the last name ‘Watson’.

Seeing that the Tv show ‘Elementary’ doesn’t feature Sherlocke’s brother, Mycroft Holmes or DI Lestrade. You can assume that they are still in England. Not knowing that there is someone impersonating Sherlock in New York. Even in ‘Elementary’ the character Captain Toby Gregson keeps referring to an incident in London. Which I’d put down as the original’s ‘death’.

But wait. Here’s the tasty bit.

As we know. The real Sherlock isn’t dead. So, the man using Sherlocke’s life for his own. Is on borrowed time. Until one day when the real Sherlock arrives at his door to claim back his life.

That’s how I watch ‘Elementary’ to pass the time until they make the next series of ‘Sherlock’. Try it yourself. I mean sure it feels like fan fiction. But it makes the world of difference when you have to sit through it.
What would make the show even better. Is if they actually did something like that. To reveal that the American ‘Sherlock’ was an imposter. Because then the show could be come it’s own thing entirely and give it more meat.
